B. Reporting
CVC Data
CVC-FAQ0001

Q. How do I collect the data on CVC days?

CVC days are defined here as the number of days that a patient has at least one CVC in situ. If a patient has multiple CVCs on one day, this should only be counted as 1 CVC day. You are required to report the total number of patients in the unit with ≥ 1 CVC. You are also required to report the number of CVC-days, restricted to only include CVC-days when the patient has been in the unit for ≥2 nights (where day 0 is day of admission). Please refer to the ICU Protocol for further details on the rationale and definitions for collecting data on CVC days.

CVC-FAQ0002

Q. If cultures are drawn peripherally and via CVC lines and both are positive, do they get entered separately or just count as one culture?

The ICU BSI data collection protocol does not distinguish between whether blood cultures are drawn peripherally or via CVC lines. Please treat this simply as multiple positive blood cultures and refer to the Please refer to the ICU Protocol for detailed guidance on how to report multiple positive blood cultures. The BSI Event Form has a section where you may enter data relating to CVC.
